The lake of Melo
Located near Corte in Haute-Corse, Lac de Melo is an essential place for the Upper Restonica Valley. Located on the GR20, its characteristic shape has given it the nickname “apple”. It is frozen at least six times a year because of its glacial origins. To get there, you still need to be used to hiking and in good physical shape.
Capitello Lake
It is known to be the first natural mountain lake for its depth of 42 meters. Located not far from Lake Melo, it has been frozen for 8 months and has been a classified site since 1966. If you go to contemplate it early in the morning, you may be able to see a golden eagle or a bearded vulture.
Gloria's Lake
Still in Haute-Corse, and far from the paths most used by tourists, Lac de Gloria is a solitary body of water located at an altitude of 2000 meters . The hike, starting from the Grotelles sheepfolds, is quite difficult because of the steep paths that have to be taken.
Orient Lake
It is a glacial valley located in the upper Restonica valley and which has several bodies of water, including Lake Oriente, and hiking departures. It takes 4 hours to climb 1000 meters in difficult conditions. After the effort, the comfort: treat yourself to a saving break at the sheepfolds of Timozzull where you can taste a cheese typical of the Corsican tradition.
Bastiani Lake
We are still in Haute-Corse where Bastiani Lake is located at the foot of Punta Bacinello. It is one of the highest lakes in altitude (2092 meters). Starting from the Ghisoni ski resort, it will take you an hour and a half to reach it. This hike is accessible to beginners and will allow you to contemplate the surprising colors of nature.
Nino's lake
Nino Lake is located at 1763 meters of altitude in the Niolu Valley. Hikers particularly appreciate this route, as it provides access to an incredible belvedere. Two areas punctuate the walk: the crossing of the Vergio forest, easy to access and very pleasant, and the more complex hike in the rocks, but fortunately shorter. You will then arrive in the middle of fields where wild horses graze before reaching the lake.
Creno Lake
Located in southern Corsica, Lac de Creno is the only one surrounded by conifers. It is 1310 meters above sea level and is located in the Monte Rotondo massif. Covered with water lilies, the lake offers a relaxing view and will immerse you in a pure and authentic atmosphere.
Vitalaca Lake
This lake is also located in southern Corsica, in the Renoso massif. Culminating at 1777 meters above sea level, it can be reached by various hiking trails: from the village de Bastelica is the route most frequently taken. “Vitalaca” means “to take away life” and the lake owes its name to its freezing waters. However, it is one of the most beautiful lakes in Corsica, although little known, as it is quite isolated.
